Hard times ahead. This very young cider gum has a lot of winters to endure before it can be assured of a long life. It is growing on the Central Plateau of Tasmania, Australia. But this young sapling also faces an uncertain changing world. Due to climate change and reduced snow it’s habitat advantage is now lost. There is growing competition by other gums which are colonizing the region because it is warmer – likely they will grow faster and stronger crowding out the rare and dying Cider gums.
