Wheeny fire No. 1 2006 Oil on Linen 500 x 760mm $900
Wheeny Fire No. 1 The first of three paintings of these white squiggly gums exposed through a backburning operation. Found on the escarpment of Wheeny creek NSW the backburn provided protection from fires that may begin in the Wollemi World Heritage park from farm land and residential houses on the fringes of Greater Sydney.
It takes ten visits to site to complete a painting, by the time I had finished not only was the trunk covered with sucker regrowth but the right hand trunk had broken off and fallen completely reshaping the tree.
