Lyre – Figure in Landscape No.43 Music to the eyes. This Sassafras occupies a precious place alongside a tributary creek to the Liffey River. As the sun travels across the open canopy created by the creek, this Sassafras bursts into visual music.

The Lyre is a lyrical instrument with a soft lilting voice. The form of the tree takes the shape of the lyre. Yet, the delicate shoots become the strings, and the golden leaves perform the music.

Lyre is painted entirely on location en plein air, but using the rich tonal language of the Renaissance. Layers of paint were built up over ten painting sessions. It took considerable commitment to bring you this painting. Please allow yourself to be caught up in the music of it.
