Blessed are the Merciful. 2012 Oil on Linen 750 x 1050mm $4500
The mount is a place of hardship – with the best views in the world. This mount is also a place of high bitter winds, fire ravished ridge lines, and scorching shade-less sun. Victims of a recent fire these two trees grow and survive in the dance of life. Metaphorically one tree leans over and kisses the other. It is an act of mercy. It recalls another psalm which Jesus was well aware of when he gave his sermon on the mount.
Mercy and truth are met together: righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth shall spring forth from the earth, and Righteousness shall look down from the heavens. Psalm 85: 10,11
This work is from a group of paintings which take their metaphoric inspiration from the Beatitudes. The painting is a part of the series Pas De Deux – Dance of Two.
